Hitchin firefighters put out a garden fire that spread to a house in our town on Monday (June 13) evening.

As you can see by our picture, the fire was at a house beyond King George V Playing Fields around 9pm.

Smoke was seen rising into the air as the fire service attended the incident.

Herts Fire Service said: "Crews from Hitchin Fire Station were mobilised to a fire in a garden.

"Further calls indicated the fire had spread to the property so control mobilised an extra pump.

"Crews checked the property for further fire spread with their thermal imagining camera and [used] hose reels to extinguish [the fire]."
