Guess Crew is coming to Hitchin - as a go-to British lifestyle brand gears up to open in town.

Yes, that's right Crew Clothing Company - the store with a classic style and a coastal twist - is set to open on Bancroft soon.

Hitchin Nub News paid a visit this week to inspect proceedings and while workmen remained tight-lipped, there 'isn't long' until the new shop opens.

We're waiting for a reply from Crew's head office but in the meantime shopfitters are busy priming the store nestled near Joules and Hotel Chocolat in the heart of our town.

Crew say their vision is to create timeless clothes inspired by the British coast. With its cobbled streets, crystal clear water and unbeatable views, Salcombe was the perfect inspiration for professional skier, Alastair Parker-Swift's first menswear collection.

When he wasn't competing for England, Alistair ran a successful windsurfing school - and it was here that Crew Clothing was born.

Alistair's first collection consisted of a rugby shirt that he took from Salcombe to Cowes Week to the King's Road. 79 stores later and the rest is history. Crew say: Over the last 25 years we've grown beyond the back of a windsurfing shop - with stores to be found up and down the country."

Watch this space for more.

PS: See Hitchin Nub News later this week for our special report on the High Street and how our town has fared since lockdown.
