Hitchin Town Centre Flag Design Competition
If you are passing through Hitchin town centre, look up and see a wonderful new flag, designed by Layla Brett, aged just eight years old.
The competition run by Hitchin BID was well-received with 35 entries which can be seen in the window of 14 Bancroft next to St Mary's Church.
Layla's winning design was chosen by the judges from Hitchin Creative, Next Page Books, Pots of Art and Town Centre Manager Tom Hardy.
In 2019 the flagpole was installed on the Market Place to commemorate Keith Hoskins MBE serving 22 years as Town Centre Manager. Since then, the pole has been used to fly flags for official days and significant occasions. However, the flagpole is not used all the time and, with help from the young people of Hitchin we are now changing that!
Layla's eye-catching design includes a 'Welcome to Hitchin' and some of the iconic places and views of our town. Just take a look next time you're passing.
