Phew what a scorcher!

Hitchin sweltered in 26C heat on Monday as the UK recorded its hottest day of the year after a weekend of high temperatures.

The mercury reached 28.8 in London with north Herts not far behind as people gathered in many of Hitchin's green spaces as well as social distanced beer gardens to soak up the sunshine.

The temperature in our town was hotter than sunspots such as Ibiza as the Met Office explained that southerly winds have been bringing in warmer air that allows temperatures to build. Combined with the long hours of sunshine in the week before the longest day of the year has spent a prolonged hot spell.

However, you are urged to make the most of it as a weak cold front is set to bring cool air and lower humidity today, Tuesday.

Temperatures are set to rise to again on Wednesday before a spell of changeable weather.
