Hitchin man arrested in operation targeting drug dealing

Two people have been arrested during an operation to target drug dealing.
Officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary's Operational Support Group, working with the Stevenage Neighbourhood Policing Team, raided addresses in Hitchin and Stevenage on Thursday 3 July. Officers recovered Class A and Class B drugs, along with more than £3,700 in cash.
A 51-year-old man from Hitchin was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs and possession of criminal property. He has been bailed whilst the investigation continues. David Delancy, aged 49, of Shephall Way, Stevenage was also arrested and charged for separate shoplifting offences.
Sergeant Chris Armstrong, from the constabulary's Operational Support Group, said: "This latest operation is part of our ongoing efforts to target and disrupt those involved in supplying Class A drugs in these areas. The violence and exploitation often associated with drug dealing causes untold harm to our communities and often targets the vulnerable.
"For that reason, we will not rest in our mission to seek out those who choose to supply and sell illegal drugs in our towns. Please keep reporting your concerns to us; we may not be able to act immediately, but this does not mean that we won't. We need to have the right people in the right place at the right time, so please keep the information coming."
