Charnwood House open days have been hailed as a huge success – and there's still time to have your say.
The successful event saw more than 200 visitors attend and was a great opportunity to engage with organisations and individuals about the future of this landmark building and to start to shape plans for its renovation.
Visitors were given the chance to take a tour of Charnwood House, located next to Hitchin Library at Paynes Park and give their views on transforming this much-loved building into a community hub.
Responses given may inform and influence proposals for refurbishing and adapting Charnwood House into a useful, creative and exciting community hub asset.
This feedback will help North Herts District Council aim to ensure proposals meet priorities, needs and aspirations for a community hub, and add value to what members of the community, local businesses and other community stakeholders do.
Cllr Ian Albert, North Herts Council's Executive Member for Finance and Chair of North Herts Council's Hitchin Committee said: "I would like to thank all those who attended the Charnwood House open days, it was great to see so many people engaged with improving their local area.
"It was a great opportunity to explore the possibilities for the space and ensure we create a facility that we can give back to the community for years to come.
"I look forward to continuing to hear from local residents. All feedback and suggestions will be taken on board - this really is an opportunity for residents to help mould the future of Charnwood House.
"I would like also to thank members of the Charnwood Community Management Association who have been campaigning for the building to be used as a community hub for Hitchin."
NHDC say they are currently in phase one of the regeneration project which involves gathering suggestions and input from the community.
On November 1, they move to phase two, where they will aim to meet with our community to refine potential options and help decide what best supports the goal of establishing a community hub at Charnwood House.
NHDC also say they will be examining if it is possible to bring any part of the building back into public use before a longer term refurbishment.
The council added: "[We] would like to say a big thank you to all those who attended the Charnwood House open days."
If you were unable to attend the event it is still possible to have your say by completing our questionnaire to give your views on the future of Charnwood House.
The questionnaire can be downloaded from the NHDC website. You can email your responses to [email protected] or post your response to Estates, Council Offices, Gernon Road, Letchworth Garden City SG6 3JF.
