Hitchin MP Bim Afolami spoken with Nub News about Sue Gray's report, PM Boris Johnson and the Partygate scandal - but the answer is not what many want to hear.

Hitchin's Parliamentarian had previously been tight-lipped on the ongoing saga but has broken his silence - of sorts - after initial findings from Gray's inquiry into lockdown socialising in government buildings were finally published.

The much-awaited report points to 'failures of leadership and judgement' and excessive drinking at work during the height of the pandemic while many made sacrifices.

Experienced government mandarin Gray explained that 16 events at Downing Street fell within her investigation's remit with 12 of those are currently being investigated by the Metropolitan Police - including three events previously not reported.

However, speaking to Nub News after the extraordinary debate in the House of Commons on Monday lunchtime, Mr Afolami said: "Sue Gray's report makes clear that there were failures of judgement and leadership in Number 10 during the pandemic at times when families across the country faced significant hardships.

"Disappointingly due to the ongoing police investigation, Sue Gray has not been able to publish the entirety of her report and we must wait for the police to complete their investigations before the full findings can be known.

"Once that investigation is complete, that report should be published in full – no ifs and no buts."

Mr Afolami added: "However the update she has given makes clear that broader changes need to be made in the Downing Street operation irrespective of any further investigations and the Prime Minister has promised to implement these changes in full with oversight from a new Prime Ministerial Department, proper reporting lines and appropriate structures and personnel.

"I will carefully study the detail of these proposals as they emerge."
