HITCHIN: Never mind the mercury hitting a balmy 21C over the weekend - get set for possible snowfalls in our area

We all know our weather can be changeable - and this week will underline that fact once again - with snow expected in Hitchin.

Despite sun seekers basking in glorious spring weather that saw places such as Windmill Hill busy with people taking in the higher than average temperatures over the weekend - forecasters are warning us to wrap up warm again.

Why? That's because of a cold front pushing down from the north in midweek forcing temperatures to plummet, the Met Office says.

The Met Office said we will see colder, cloudier and more unsettled weather, with the risk of wintry weather in the middle of the week - including the possibility of snow in Hitchin on Wednesday or Thursday.

Temperatures during the day will halve from the highs reached last week and fall below freezing overnight as a cold front pushes down from the north - with Wednesday the most extreme in terms of wintry weather, as a cold stream of air will start to push southwards bringing unpredictable wet and windy conditions, even snow or sleet.

Some areas will struggle to reach 8C - a big change from the weekend.
