HITCHIN: An event that took place in our town today, Thursday [October 28] to mark Black History Month, has been hailed as a huge success.

Westmill Community Centre played host to a Celebration of Black History Month that was organised by North Herts Minority Ethnic Forum - with speakers invited to share their stories based around the subject 'Proud To Be'

Attendee and NHDC community engagement officer Danny Pearson told Hitchin Nub News: "It was a fun filled exciting family day.

"The North Herts Council Community Engagement Team had a great time at the Celebration of Black History Month event at the centre.

"It was great to see so many local people come to this event in the heart of Westmill.

"A big thank you goes out to the North Herts Minority Ethnic Forum and The Westmill Community Centre team. The venue was perfect, the speakers were extremely interesting, and the food was fantastic."

Among the attendees at the popular event was Mohammed Alam, director of North Herts Minority Ethnic Forum, who was there to launch the event.

Speakers included Sue Ngwala, chair of the North Herts 50Plus, and Dwight Smiley, founder member and former trustee of North Herts Minority Ethnic Forum.
