Hitchin: Not long now until revamped Coopers Arms re-opens - find out more
One of Hitchin's oldest pubs is gearing up to re-open next month - as you can see by our photo gallery.
The Coopers Arms is set to throw open its doors to happy punters in June.
The pub on Tilehouse Street* can date its origins back to the 15th century and in 1750 was recorded as being owned by William Lucas of the renowned Hitchin Brewing Family, with its first recorded license as an ale house in 1860.
The pub has had a long and interesting history with John Webb, licensee in 1887 running a horse-drawn taxi to Hitchin railway station and hired out cycles, waggonettes, brakes, broughams and landaus.
The Coopers - as many know it by - is now owned by McMullens - and they have big plans to revamp the site
They said of the forthcoming opening: "Over the weekend some of our fixed seating has arrived!
"Not long now until we welcome you back to The Coopers Arms [with a] brand spanking new Coopers Arms focusing on proper burgers, craft beer, funky cocktail and great entertainment - See you in June!"
