[H1]HITCHIN: In these troubled times it's nice to report a story about Good Samaritans that emerged after a worrying crash in our town[H1]

On Thursday (March 3) police were called at around 515pm following a road traffic collision in Bedford Road, Hitchin.

Two motorcycles were involved, resulting in a rider coming off his bike as a result of the incident near to The Angels pub.

A passerby - or Good Samaritan as Nub News and others labelled them - stopped to assist. The person also ensured the road was not left blocked, while officers made their way to the scene.

Thankfully both riders made a full recovery.

And that's where the story ends. Or so we thought.

However, Hitchin Nub News reader Vicky Lake came forward to say that she was the person who helped the stricken motorcyclist.

Good Samaritan Vicky takes up the story: "Yes, it was me who stopped to help him and clear the road and making it safe for both lads plus other road users.

"I hope one day if my children were ever in trouble and I couldn't get to them, I hope someone would stop and help them."

Incredibly, as they waited for an ambulance to come, it turned out that the first responder on the scene was Vicky's partner, who is a trained medic.

"We only live round the corner and my partner treated the lad on the floor. I have since kept in contact with the young lad and he is doing ok." Vicky added: "We also took him home on our recovery truck due it not being safe for him to ride. I also fixed his brothers bike at the side of the road too.

"We did it as we have children and would hope they would be looked after if something happened to them.

"We stop at crashes and brake downs whenever we come across them, always willing to help anyone in need at any time.

"We chase the fuzzy feeling you get in your tummy. We concentrated on the task in hand making sure both boys were ok and everyone was safe."
