Hitchin pays tribute to Victoria Kevans after much-loved landlady of The Vic sadly dies
Tributes have been pouring in for a hugely-popular Hitchin landlady who has sadly died.
Victoria Kevans, who ran The Victoria pub on Ickleford Road, has tragically passed away - leaving many distraught in Hitchin.
Much-loved Vic took over as landlady in 2006, daughter to her predecessor Cilla Kevans. Her passing will leave The Victoria as the true meaning of a public house - a place where everyone was welcomed and made to feel at home.
A post on the pub's social media platforms this weekend shared the following: "It is with huge sadness that we share the news of the passing of our landlady, Vic, after a short and private battle with cancer.
"Vic was not just the heart of The Vic, but also a beautiful soul and a cornerstone of our community. She loved and invested deeply in our town, co-founding Hitchin Street Food, and was a tireless supporter of various charities.
"Under her lead, The Victoria has become a vibrant hub supporting creatives, hosting barn markets, comedy nights, poetry sessions, and showcases for local bands and singers, among many other events.
"Her absence will be deeply felt by everyone who knew her, and by all who call The Vic their local. This news is still very raw for us, and we kindly ask for your understanding as we, along with Vic's family, take the necessary time to work through everything.
"Our doors will remain open to honour the commitments we've made, thanks to our dedicated and amazing staff, who are also processing this loss. We ask for your gentleness with them during this time."
Hitchin Nub News sends its condolences to Vic's family, friends and staff at The Victoria.
