For any Hitchin motorists and pedestrians who may have driven or walked past a police car on a busy road in our town on Tuesday, here's the reason.

As you can see by our Nub News photographs, a police car was parked on Bedford Road on Tuesday lunchtime - prompting curiosity among those who passed by the busy thoroughfare alongside Butts Close - but for once it was good news.

Here's what Herts Police told Hitchin Nub News.

"Police were called at around 1205pm on Tuesday (October 31) following the discovery of three push bikes on Bedford Road, Hitchin.

"Officers attended, and the bikes were reported as having been stolen overnight from a garage in Strathmore Avenue.

"The property is being returned to its rightful owner."
