Hitchin's Christmas Lights Switch-On has been hailed as a huge hit.

The eagerly-awaited annual event took place in the Market Square on Saturday teatime.

Residents took in the festive fun - boosted by the newly installed Hitchin Snowman Trail as reported by Nub News over the weekend here and here and here - in addition to our well-received photos we shared on our Facebook page as well as others including the brilliant We Love Hitchin.

Nub News spoke to Hitchin's Danny Pearson, who attended the event.

"It's Chrisssstmassss," festive fun-loving Danny told us excitedly, adding: "I always look forward to the Hitchin Christmas lights switch on event, but this year felt a little extra special.

"After the last couple of years of various Lockdowns and Covid spikes it felt amazing to be able to go to the event virtually worry free.

"The town felt like it was fizzing with festive cheer all day on the lead up to the switch on. And how much fun was it to have our new snowman guests join us for this year's festivities - The Walking With The Snowman Trail.

"The Christmas tree, and its lights, have never looked so good and the extra lights that have been brought in this year really do elevate the whole town into a winter wonderland! I've said it before, and I'll say it again – Hitchin really knows how to do Christmas!"
