Have you visited the brilliant North Herts Museum in our town yet?

There is so much to see and do at the site on Brand Street, including their must-visit latest exhibition A Commute Through Time.

If you're a fan of our town's rich heritage the museum is a treasure trove of artefacts, photographs, stories and items from the past.

We'll be aiming to ramp our our Nub News REWIND series this year and will be working with the museum to share more interesting stories from our town's rich and varied past.

For today, here's an evocative photograph from the early 1900s.

It's a shot of the Sayer family shop at Number 90 Nightingale Road. The man at the door is believed to be Herbert James Sayer.

The name first appeared in local trade directories at 35 Dacre Road in 1902. By 1912 the business operated from Nightingale Road and by 1926 it appeared as H Sayer & Sons.

Incredibly, the picture was saved for posterity after being found in a skip in 1999.

Visit North Herts Museum on Brand Street, Hitchin. Showcasing the History of North Herts. The museum, cafe and gift shop are open. Drop in for free.
