If you're heading into Hitchin town centre for essential supplies during lockdown today, Wednesday, you might want to avoid Sainsbury's car park.

Why? Because essential resurfacing work is being carried out - resulting in customer parking capacity cut by half.

If you're a regular visitor to the supermarket behind Bancroft you may have noticed the condition of the surface in the car park.

The cold snap has exacerbated the problem, with potholes and loose stones and shingle emerging in the upper end of the car park, to go with the bumpy drive when you enter the site.

Thankfully, Sainsbury's have spotted the issues and are taking steps to resurface the asphalt.

However, in the meantime, if you're driving to the store, you might be better off trying other car parks in town.

Sainsbury's press office have been contacted for more details on the work.
