Boris Johnson has announced a second national lockdown for England as Great Britain moves past one million Covid cases.

In an announcement to the nation on Saturday evening the PM has instructed that non-essential shops and hospitality will have to shut for a month from Thursday.

However, unlike the restrictions imposed in March following the start of the Covid crisis, schools, colleges and universities are to stay open.

The lockdown is set to be in place until Wednesday, December 2.

Mr Johnson said takeaways will be allowed to stay open as pubs, bars and restaurants close while people are being instructed that they can only meet one person from outside their household outdoors.
