Appeal for witnesses following series of assaults in Hitchin

Police are appealing for information after a series of assaults, including a serious assault, in Hitchin.

The incidents are reported to have happened between 12pm and 2pm on Friday 21 July along Bancroft and in Bancroft Park.

The assaults on four separate victims that are reported to have happened included:

A victim being approached by a group of people and being punched in the face.

A victim who had been approached by a group of boys refused to give them some of their drink, and then the victim was punched two or three times in the face, causing redness and bruising to the cheekbone.

A victim who stepped in to help their friend was then pushed, punched in the face and in the back of the head, which caused redness to the eye.

There was then a serious assault on another victim in Bancroft Gardens.

A group of males were hostile to him. When they were told to go away, one of the suspects punched him in the face causing him to fall back and hit the ground.

While he was on the ground, another suspect kicked the victim in the head multiple times while also punching his head and spitting on him.

PC Maisie Williams who is investigating said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incidents take place or if anyone has any footage of the reported assaults.

"I am aware that this occurred during a busy period where children were finishing school for summer, so I am hopeful that people have information in relation to what happened.

"If you have information or footage of the incidents, please contact me via [email protected]."
