Hitchin Soapbox Team Set for Red Bull Challenge as They Raise Funds for Local Charities
By James Denselow 16th Jun 2026
A team of Hitchin friends who impressed at last year's Hitchin Soapbox Derby are preparing to take on an even bigger challenge this summer – the famous Red Bull Soapbox Race in London.
After raising £1,500 for local schools during their debut appearance at the Hitchin event in 2025, the five-man team – Tark A, Rob C, Matt E, Andy J and James L – have secured a place in the national competition and are hoping to raise even more money for charity.
The group, competing under the name Team Crackers, will be hurtling down the course inside a giant football-themed soapbox to celebrate this summer's FIFA World Cup.
This year, the team is supporting two local charities that provide vital services across Hertfordshire.
The first is Feed Up Warm Up, which offers a safe and welcoming space for people experiencing homelessness while also carrying out direct outreach work in communities across the county.
The second is Garden House Hospice Care, which provides free palliative care and support for patients and families affected by life-limiting illnesses and long-term conditions.
In a message supporting the fundraising effort, Team Crackers said: "Last year we competed in the first Hitchin Soapbox Derby and raised £1,500 for local schools. This year we're taking it up a notch and competing in the Red Bull Soapbox in London, where we'll be rattling down the hill in a giant football to celebrate the World Cup.
"This year we're raising money for two local charities that do great work for our community. Please donate whatever you can, and come cheer us on on the day."
