Residents across North Hertfordshire are being invited to share their favourite places as part of a new campaign celebrating the area's unique character.

North Herts Council has launched its "Love North Herts" initiative, asking people to nominate the locations, landmarks and landscapes that mean the most to them.

The campaign aims to create a lasting record of the places that help define the district, from bustling market towns and historic buildings to countryside views, parks and hidden gems.

It comes as local authorities prepare for future Local Government Reorganisation, with the council keen to capture what residents value most about North Hertfordshire before changes to local government structures take place.

As part of the project, residents can:

  • Nominate a favourite place in North Herts and explain why it is special.
  • Contribute memories and items to a time capsule designed to capture life in the district today.
  • Submit photographs of locations they love, which could be featured as part of the campaign.

The council says every contribution will help create a lasting legacy for future generations and celebrate the area's identity.

Councillor Sean Nolan, North Herts Council's Executive Member for Customers, said: "North Herts is home to so many wonderful places, from our market towns and villages to our parks, countryside and historic landmarks.

"As we look ahead to Local Government Reorganisation, this campaign is a chance for residents to share the locations that mean the most to them and help us create a lasting celebration of everything that makes our district unique.

"I encourage everyone to get involved and tell us about the places they love."

Residents have until 12 July 2026 to submit their nominations, photos and memories.

For Hitchin residents, popular contenders could include places such as the town's historic Market Place, Hitchin Lavender, Oughtonhead Common, the River Hiz, Hitchin Priory and the surrounding countryside, though the council is encouraging people to nominate any location across the district that holds special meaning for them.

Those wishing to take part can submit entries through the council's website.
