Street Food Monthly

Summer Solstice has passed and we've already been illuminated by Hitchin's Street Food Monthly's first two servings, writes Deven Thakeria.

The Market Place became home to a world of flavours from the award winning Iraqi cuisine of Amani's Kitchen, smoky Caribbean vibes from Jerk hub, tingling tacos of Cantina Carnita and Sam's Neopolitan style pizzas as well as other delicious treats from various traders.

That's not all: Street Food Monthly's staple Vic Pub along with Bar Azita were there to quench our thirsts and wash down the food.

Nub News caught up with the organiser and local taquiria wrapped into one, Matt Bean, who shares his hunger for the event "Initially we were inspired by the London street food scene and decided to recreate that here in Hitchin a few years back as an affordable community event.

"We even tried the concept in other nearby towns but it was Hitchin that had the perfect ingredients of location and culture to host such events".

Matt has placed great attention on the selection of food traders that participate.

Not only is there a diversity of cuisine but also in the nature of the traders as Matt points out. "We have well established traders with their polished branding, but we are also interested in the new traders that add a certain raw energy".
