A Hitchin organisation aimed at supporting young people has been busy providing 'virtual spaces' for those whose anxiety levels have risen during lockdown.
Phase, a youth based support trust, has been working with schools and within the wider Hitchin community, operates in partnership with churches in the town to make a positive impact on the lives of children and teenagers in the area.
The coronavirus pandemic has seen added challenges facing the youth of the area, with many admitting isolation and a loss of social interaction has seen their levels of anxiety rise.
However, help is at hand through Phase's dedicated help. "This pandemic is having a huge effect on us all," Phase director Kieran Murphy told Hitchin Nub News, adding: "But young people have been hit really hard and are struggling to know what to make of the 'new normal.'
"Enduring the incredibly difficult season of isolation where routines, rhythms and everyday normality has been removed, can make us feel lost, fearful and uncertain about what the future holds.
"As always, Phase are passionate about equipping young people to navigate the storms of life, I am not sure it has ever been stormier than now."
Since the second day of lockdown Phase have been providing virtual space for young people to explore and express their emotions, challenges and struggle that this time has brought them.
Phase's committed service powered by a raft of dedicated volunteers is proving to be vital for the young people of Hitchin says Kieran.
He explained: "Young people and their parents are reporting back that having access to a 'safe space' even if it is virtual has been a positive way for them to share their concerns and find ways forward."
