Hitchin's Chicken George to offer free school lunches during half term

Chicken George in Hitchin is giving away free school lunches throughout all of the half term.

The owner and staff at the popular eatery were moved after Marcus Rashford's call for an extension of free school meals to include half term and Christmas was rejected by the government.

The store, which opened during lockdown, has seen daily long queues on Bancroft as fans of succulent chicken clamour for its mouth-watering fayre.

Generous Chicken George owner Chris Cheah told Hitchin Nub News: "We completely agree with Marcus Rashford and feel that no child should go hungry this half term.

"We're closed on Mondays but we've decided that next week, when we re-open on Tuesday right through until Friday, any child up to the age of 16 that needs a hot meal can come in to our Hitchin or Luton branch between 2pm-4pm and have a kids meal on us.

"We are all in this together."

If you know of a restaurant in Hitchin that is doing the same as Chicken George and offering free food to hungry youngsters then please let us know by emailing [email protected] or tweeting us @HitchinNubNews
