Hitchin’s Snowman Exhibition comes to an end
After over 3-months at home in the special events area of Hitchin Museum, the Snowman exhibition closed its doors for the final time over the weekend.
The book, first published in 1978, was created and illustrated by Raymond Briggs, drawn only with pencil crayons in a comic strip format. In 1982, the classic picture book was adapted into a 26-minute animated film.
The free exhibition was made up of framed original sketches, a craft and dressing up corner as well as several snowmen for children to take photographs with.
Ros Allwood, Cultural Services Manager at North Herts Council, said: "Everyone loves The Snowman, well perhaps people of a certain age! But the more recent The Snowman and the Snowdog has reimagined it for the younger generations. Its origins are fascinating and the way it was created for TV and now shown every Christmas on Channel 4 is quite a legacy. Like the book, the short film has delighted audiences across the world over the years."
The popularity of the exhibition was demonstrated by the incredible war of children's drawings dominating one of the walls in the space.
Ros Allwood, Cultural Services Manager at North Herts Museum, told Hitchin Nub News - "We had 11,870 visitors during the exhibition – the most we've ever had to any of our exhibitions, so it's a real record, and everyone loved it".
