How Liam Gallagher playing at Knebworth could cause travel chaos in Hitchin - find out more
Liam, the younger Gallagher brother celebrates the 25th anniversary of Oasis' era-defining gigs at Knebworth Park with news that he'll return to Knebworth Park to play the biggest show of his solo career to date on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4.
While we're not sure the attendance at his two gigs this weekend will match the 250,000 people in total that saw Oasis play over two days at Knebworth in 1996, there will be many tens of thousands of visitors to our area to catch the renowned frontman.
However, a number of road closures will be in place, with traffic diverted through parts of Hitchin with a number of pick-up points highlighted.
In a letter sent by organisers to local residents seen by Hitchin Nub News, southbound traffic and coaches on the nearby A1 are set to be channelled off Junction 8 and up the A602 Stevenage Road all the way to the Moorhens roundabout in Hitchin.
The exodus will then be directed down the normally quiet B656 from Hitchin though St Ippoylts and down to Codicote.
People are also advised not to use the trains as there won't be any extra services.
A concerned resident told Nub News: "They have added overnight camping but with approximately 80,000 people expected on both days and then telling people not to use the trains - with Knebworth station also closed - it's going to be busy, not to mention 'interesting' to say the least.
"We have heard people in Great Ashby are even renting out their drives to people attending with cars."
