Millions of people are set to host street parties and events over the Jubilee weekend.

The UK will be hanging out the bunting ahead of the holiday weekend to mark The Queen's 70th year on the throne.

A weekend of celebration is planned to honour our monarch's Platinum Jubilee - and Hitchin is no different.

Our town centre will be host to a large number of events over the coming days.

Here's all your need to know about joining in the celebrations. 

When are the Jubilee bank holidays?

The UK has been given an extra day off on Friday, June 3 which is being tagged on to a later than usual May bank holiday which is now tomorrow, Thursday, (June 2).

Events will take place throughout the weekend in Hitchin and surrounding areas as Nub News reported here

What events are happening in Hitchin on Thursday, June 2?

1030am-330pm

Starting the Jubilee with the big screen, there will be a screening of Trooping the Colour, the Queen's visit to Hitchin in 2012 & the film: The Queen

130pm-330pm

Throughout the afternoon, there will be buskers performing a variety of songs including pop up proms

730pm-9.45pm

Hitchin band will take us into the evening with 'British sing-a-long songs'

945pm

The evening will climax with a beacon lighting which will be lit by a Queen's representative

Did you know that there are plans to host a 'Big Lunch' on the streets of Hitchin town centre on Sunday, June 5?

Bucklersbury, Sun Street and Hitchin High Street will be closed to traffic, with restaurants and cafes encouraged to line the streets with tables and chairs to serve food and drink throughout the day.

There will be 18 road closures in Hitchin over the four-day bank holiday weekend celebration for The Queen.

Hitchin Nub News understands that 18 road closures were applied for and granted for Hitchin.

Hitchin Nub News also understands that there will be a total of 561 road closures across Hertfordshire. 

This includes main thoroughfares in our town centre, including Bancroft and Nightingale Road.
