Why not join in Hitchin Library's most popular annual event - the Summer Reading Challenge!

The Summer Reading Challenge is without doubt the biggest event in the library's calendar - last summer more than 1,000 children took part.

The much-loved library at Paynes Park in our town recently reopened its doors and is hosting the event - albeit in a different format than normal during these post-lockdown times.

Library manager Rebekah Nicolas told Hitchin Nub News: "We usually love talking to kids about the books they've been reading, but this sadly isn't possible this year, making it more of an at-home experience.

"Our reading challenge remains a great way to reward children for their summer reading though, with stickers, a certificate and much more available in a pack that can be collected from the library and there's a digital offer available too which is offered by The Reading Agency.

"As far as other activities go, we have weekly and free online Rhyme Time which is on Thursdays at 1015am and Storytime sessions on Tuesdays at 2pm on our Facebook page - it's not quite the same as our in person sessions of course, but it has been wonderful to still offer these sessions since April online."
