Letchworth school plans to build new 3G pitches on green belt

The Highfield School in Letchworth has submitted plans for two 3G five-a-side football pitches, complete with floodlights.
If the plans are given the green light by North Herts Council, the pitches will be built on what is currently a grass playing field.
The pitches, according to a document submitted as part of the planning application, will be "within a wider enclosed playing area" and have six floodlights.
A "curfew" for floodlight use is proposed, with cut-off times of 8pm on weekdays, 6pm on Saturdays and 4pm on Sundays to "minimise" the impact on nearby bats.
The design and access statement from the planning application reads: "The scheme will provide a modern, durable, and inclusive all-weather sports facility, enabling year-round football activity for both school pupils and the wider community.
"The facility will be available for some community use … [and] reuses existing open space to deliver football infrastructure for The Highfield School.
"The development will enhance the school's ability to offer consistent and reliable training and match play opportunities.
"It will also support the broader community by offering a venue for various sports and recreational activities, promoting physical activity and wellbeing among residents of all ages."
The statement described the plans as "sympathetic to its surroundings" and said it would "deliver a step-change in the quality and availability of local football facilities".
It added that the plans have been "carefully designed to comply with the FA and Sport England guidance".
