Older adults in North Herts are being invited to get active and discover new ways to stay healthy at a special 'Live Longer Better' event next week.
The free community day takes place at North Herts Leisure Centre in Letchworth on Tuesday 4 November, from 10am to 1pm.
The event is being run by Everyone Active, in partnership with North Hertfordshire Council, Herts Sports and Physical Activity Partnership (HSP) and Active in the Community, with the aim of helping people find fun, accessible activities that can boost both physical and mental wellbeing.
Visitors can take part in a range of taster sessions led by local instructors, including strength and balance, pickleball, walking netball, walking football, walking squash, badminton, short mat bowls and seated cricket, with something suitable for all abilities.
Alongside the activities, a marketplace of local organisations will be on hand to share advice, support and information on staying active and connected. Stalls will include North Herts Council, Herts Health Walks, Garden House Hospice, Memory Support Hertfordshire, Age UK, Alzheimer's Society, First Garden City Homes, Sadie Centre and more.
The event ties in with Everyone Active's national 'Age is Just a Number' campaign, which is running throughout October and November, celebrating older adults who are proving that age is no barrier to fitness.
Danny Kingston, Activity and Wellbeing Manager at Everyone Active, said: "This event is all about showing people that it's never too late to get moving. Whether you want to improve your fitness, meet new people or just feel more confident day-to-day, there's something here for everyone."
Cllr Amy Allen, Executive Member for Environment, commented: "We're proud to support the 'Live Longer Better' event, which celebrates the incredible contribution older adults make to our community and encourages everyone to stay active and connected. Whether it's trying a new sport or simply meeting others, this event offers something for all residents and reflects our commitment to promoting healthier and happier lives across North Herts."
Everyone Active manages the North Herts leisure facilities on behalf of North Herts Council, working together to support local residents in leading healthy, active lives.
