One man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences, following an incident outside Stevenage Police Station on Lytton Way on Wednesday evening.

Police were called to reports of a road traffic incident in the area at around 630pm on Wednesday (September 6), including reports that a handgun may have been seen and as a result closed the town centre dual carriageway to complete a full investigation.

A source told Nub News: "There was gun shots outside Stevenage police station.'

However, police insist there is no danger to the general public, saying: "There is no known risk to the public and those involved are believed to be known to one another."

One man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. Nub News understands that the victim is under police guard at a hospital outside the area.

The arrested man remains in police custody.
