Man hospitalised with 'serious injuries' as police close busy town centre road in Stevenage following reports of suspect with handgun emerge
A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment in Stevenage.
The incident led to a busy road in Stevenage town centre being closed last night, near to Hertfordshire Constabulary HQ and Stevenage Railway Station, and coach station, after reports of a man with a handgun emerged.
A source told Nub News: "There was gun shots outside Stevenage police station."
Officers in Stevenage closed Lytton Way in both directions overnight on Wednesday, September 6 to allow investigations into an incident in the town.
Herts Police released a statement on Thursday morning that read: "Officers in Stevenage closed Lytton Way in both directions overnight on Wednesday, September 6 to allow investigations into an incident in the town.
"Police were called to reports of a road traffic incident in the area at around 630pm on Wednesday, including reports that a handgun may have been seen and as a result closed the town centre dual carriageway to complete a full investigation.
"There is no known risk to the public and those involved are believed to be known to one another.
"One man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
"Motorists are thanked for their patience as the closure remains in place first thing on Thursday, September 7 impacting rush-hour traffic."
