What is the background of those candidates running for the Hitchin seats and what's their vision for the town and the surrounding area?

This week Hitchin Nub News spoke to the Labour Candidate for Hitchin South, Indie Sunner.

HNN – Tell us about yourself?

IS – "I've lived in Hitchin for ten years and have a healthcare background as an NHS pharmacist. I'm a working mum and have been a trustee of the Garden House Hospice since last August. I'm approachable and enthusiastic and love to hear people's views."

HNN – Why are you running for the county council?

IS – "I feel I can make a huge impact as a county councillor on issues from education, health, social care and highways. Hitchin South is a beautiful and great place to live with a diverse population - but we are lacking in representation of working women across the council at large".

HNN – How has the campaign been so far?

IS – "It's been great to actually get out and speak to people! I've been campaigning in between work and making sure my children are at their various clubs and activities. My kids are excited about me running for the council. I've always taught them that they have a voice and they're also part of my journey".

HNN – What are the issues you're running on?

IS – "We have an aging population that needs health and social care services that they can rely on. In terms of education we need far better SEND support - something that Hitchin's MP is championing. Unfortunately we're behind other counties on this. I support a unitary council in Hertfordshire in the future - but the District Council isn't go anywhere soon so need to make it work. I do think that a new Hitchin Town Council would be a good idea".

Are you a candidate for the upcoming Hitchin South County Council elections in May? If so HNN wants to hear from you 😀
