What is the background of those candidates running for the Hitchin seats and what's their vision for the town and the surrounding area?

This week Hitchin Nub News heard from Tracy Maney from Reform UK.

HNN - Why are you running for Hitchin South?

"I'm standing because I want to give people who are fed up with "politics as usual" the chance to choose a Councillor with a common-sense approach to local government".

HNN - What would you like to see the County Council do / do differently?

"The County Council needs to reduce wasteful spending, improve local services and create opportunities for our local community to thrive. Above all they need to actually listen to the voters who put them in office and make the issues that matter most to those voters a priority. This is what I'll be fighting for if I'm elected".

HNN - Tell us more about yourself?

"After graduating from Essex University with the BSc in Computing Science, I worked with a number of IT companies and co-authored a book on AI before starting a systems company with my husband. I believe successfully running this business for 26 years has equipped me with the skills necessary to be a successful County Councillor".

"I'm retired which means I have the time and energy to effectively represent the people of Hitchin South if they choose to elect me."

"I've lived in Hitchin South for 39 years, my husband was actually born here, our cat was born in Afghanistan but that's another story".

HNN - Tell us how the campaign is going so far?

"It's going well. To be honest I was quite nervous when I started leafleting and knocking on doors because I wasn't sure of the level of support we'd have but it's been amazing. There is no better feeling than walking down a street and getting a thumbs up from the person walking towards you because they've seen the leaflets in your hand and they recognise the party you're representing as their party".

"I've also been accepting invitations to tea from various groups of Hitchin South residents. I've met so many welcoming people. I'm hoping that the calories I've burned walking the streets leafleting will compensate for all the tea and cake but it's a close call at the moment".

Are you a candidate for the upcoming Hitchin South County Council elections in May? If so HNNwants to hear from you 😀
