Could Mike Tyson be visiting Hitchin and Top Field later this year?

The former boxing world champion could be on his way to north Herts alongside close friend, iconic US boxing commentator 'The Colonel' Bob Sheridan.

Why, you ask?

Well, 'The Colonel' is the long-lost father of Canaries steward and all round good guy Simon Edwards.

Sports lover and family man Simon, whose passion is for his two daughters, Hitchin Town FC, Letchworth CC in that order, was adopted as a child.

After successfully tracing his birth father, he found him to be The Colonel - who in a heartwarming show of affection, welcomed him with open arms, in a tale fit for Hollywood.

According to respected Hitchin Town stalwart and club secretary Roy Izzard in an interview with Simon on the Canaries website, a film is currently being made about the life of The Colonel.

It will be called The Eagle Has Landed and will feature Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, Ray Liotta and Eminem.

However, the script is now being changed to reflect Simon's entry in The Colonel's amazing life.

With the result that Simon's father is due to fly to England in October - together with Tyson.

According to Roy 'he will meet Simon in Hitchin and Simon hopes to take him to Top Field!"

Down to earth Simon, who capped a remarkable few weeks by picking the winner of the Grand National last weekend, is looking forward to meeting the legendary Colonel Bob.

As an indication of Simon's kind-hearted nature, he deposited the majority of winnings into his two daughters bank accounts - following a modest celebratory steak and Guinness.

Humble Simon, who is well known to Canaries fans at Top Field, is set to fly to Las Vegas this summer to meet his dad face-to-face for the first time, after The Colonel bought him first class tickets.

The Colonel listed Elvis Pressley, Frank Sinatra and Muhammad Ali among his closest friends in a life that is certainly worthy of a film.

And with the twist in discovering his long-lost son Simon, it looks like Hitchin could be hosting Colonel Bob and Tyson when they fly over later this year.

Simon's story so far

Simon, who was adopted as a baby, made the incredible discovery after he tracked down his family tree in Ireland.

Huge Hitchin Town fan Simon, 40, contacted 'The Colonel', the renowned Boston-born journalist who covered famous prize fights throughout his long career when he found out that his birth mother was Rosemary.

She sadly died in 1985 when Simon was five - leaving nine sisters and one brother.

Rosemary, from County Clare in the west of Ireland is said to have had a clandestine meeting with Mr Sheridan while working in a hotel where he was staying on holiday in 1980.

The result of the dalliance was Simon, who was born in Newham, east London, before being handed to a Catholic charity for adoption.

The world-famous boxing commentator known as 'The Colonel' - who covered Muhammed Ali's 'Rumble in the Jungle' with George Foreman in 1974 in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo) - says he was unaware Rosemary became pregnant with his secret son.

Simon is set to visit his birth father for the first time at Mr Sheridan's plush $150m villa in Las Vegas later this summer.

The Colonel is recognised worldwide for his distinctive baritone voice that has made him one of boxing's most famous characters - and has covered more than 10,000 fights which include 100 heavyweight title fights.

His most famous bouts include the majority of Muhammad Ali's fights including the Rumble in the Jungle against George Foreman and the Thriller in Manila against long-time foe Joe Frazier.

Mr Sheridan also called many of Mike Tyson's fights, including Buster Douglas's famous victory as well as the bout that saw Tyson bite off a part of Evander Holyfield's ear.
