Residents at Milford Lodge Care Home in Hitchin were treated to a delightful surprise yesterday as the Engagement Team unveiled their very own Ice Cream Trolley, created especially to help keep everyone cool and hydrated during the extreme temperatures.

Complete with a cheerful ice‑cream‑van jingle playing as it travelled through the home, the trolley brought instant smiles, giggles, and a wave of nostalgia. For many residents, the familiar tune sparked warm memories of childhood summers, neighbourhood ice cream vans, and the simple joy of choosing a favourite treat on a hot day.

A Creative Way to Beat the Heat

With temperatures soaring, hydration remains a top priority for the team at Milford Lodge. Offering ice creams and ice lollies is not only refreshing but also a fun, engaging way to encourage residents to stay cool and hydrated.

The trolley — lovingly put together by the Engagement Team — was stocked with colourful lollies, soft scoops, and plenty of choice. Residents enjoyed selecting their favourites, chatting with staff, and sharing stories inspired by the music and treats.

Music, Memories, and Meaningful Moments

The addition of the classic ice‑cream‑van soundtrack was a stroke of genius. As the trolley made its way through the home, residents lit up, some humming along, others laughing as they recognised the tune. The Engagement Team Eliana & Devina said "These small sensory touches are powerful in creating connection, comfort, and joy — especially for those living with dementia in Sycamore."
