Milford Lodge Gardening Club Springs Back to Life as Chelsea Flower Show Blooms on TV
By Eliana Ferraris 19th May 2026
Residents at Milford Lodge Care Home have stepped back into the sunshine with their much‑loved "Muddy Fingers" Gardening Club officially restarting, perfectly timed with the excitement of the Chelsea Flower Show airing on television. The return of the club brought fresh energy, shared memories, and plenty of muddy‑fingered joy — all thanks to the warm leadership of Volunteer Andy and Activity Coordinator Devina.
A Perfect Week to Begin Again
With the Chelsea Flower Show filling screens across the home, residents were already buzzing with inspiration. The gardening club's first session of the season tapped into that enthusiasm, giving everyone a chance to get outdoors, breathe in the spring air, and reconnect with a favourite hobby.
Andy, who has supported the club for several seasons guided residents through the first tasks of the season — refreshing pots, preparing soil, and choosing plants that would thrive in the home's outdoor spaces. Devina added her trademark warmth and encouragement, helping residents select colours and scents that reminded them of gardens they once tended.
Hands‑On Creativity and Conversation
The session was filled with gentle chatter as residents shared gardening tips, swapped stories about allotments and old rose beds, and compared notes on their favourite Chelsea Flower Show displays. For many, the combination of hands‑on activity and televised inspiration made the day feel extra special.
One resident smiled as she patted down compost around a young plant, saying, "Watching Chelsea always makes me want to get planting — it's lovely to be doing it again."
Growing More Than Flowers
Beyond the beautiful planters and refreshed borders, the gardening club continues to nurture something deeper: friendship, confidence, and a sense of purpose. Andy's patient guidance and Devina's uplifting presence created a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where every resident could take part, no matter their level of mobility or experience.
Staff noted how energised residents felt afterwards, with many already asking what the next gardening project will be.
Looking Ahead
With the gardening club now back in full bloom, Milford Lodge is planning a season of outdoor activities — from herb planting to summer flower displays — all inspired by the creativity and colour of the Chelsea Flower Show. They will be drying their rose petals to sell as confetti to brides this wedding season & hope to have a plant stall in reception.
