Manager Michael Jones said he was really pleased with this comprehensive demolition of Milton Keynes Irish and could not have asked for any more from the team. As a bonus he was able to give decent run outs to the substitutes to ensure match fitness is maintained as the whole squad will be needed over the rest of the season.

This was one of the best performances of the season from Hitchin with their domination almost total. The quality of the football was excellent with any number of good passing moves mesmerising the Irish backline. Also despite being three goals ahead at half time they did not take their foot off the pedal in the second half and indeed scored two goals in the first four minutes.

Team news was that Josh Jackman and Stephen Gleeson were both injured so Josh Coldicott-Stevens came in to midfield while Diogo Freitas-Gouveia played in the advanced role usually occupied by Kye Tearle who dropped in to the right wing back role. From the beginning Hitchin were on top and in the first eleven minutes Freitas-Gouveia shot over the bar, Lewis Franklin had a shot well save while Franklin's cross was just too high for Taylor Rhiney. But the first goal was just round the corner. Irish survived a goalmouth scramble before in 1he 16th minute Freitas-Gouveia showed great skill in a run that bamboozled defenders and after his original effort was blocked he forced the ball home. A goal was well deserved and Hitchin were relentless in chasing more goals. Rhiney produced a good save from Tom Landyman before Charlie Briggs timed his run to perfection to head home a Callum Nicolson corner after 25 minutes.

Franklin forced another good save before Hitchin scored their third goal after 41 minutes. Again Freitas-Gouveia showed great skill before burying his shot after good assistance from Nicolson. Tyler McGregor did make his first save after 43 minutes doing well to thwart Clinton Zawe but this was a rare moment of danger as Hitchin had been in full control of the first half.

Would Hitchin be able to repeat the intensity in the second half? Well two goals in four minutes answered that question. After 47 minutes Nicolson's corner was headed goalwards by Cieran Jones but before it could cross the line Rhiney applied the final touch to keep his great scoring record going. Just two minutes later Franklin got another goal to add to his impressive list when he finished a Tearle cross. With the game wrapped up substitutions were made. Blue Joy replaced Brett Longden after 55 minutes and Fernando Bell-Toxtle and Liam Brooks replaced Freitas-Gouveia and Nicolson after 63 minutes. Finally Toby Syme and Kav Cotter replaced Tearle and Franklin after 73 minutes.

There was still time for a sixth goal and it came from Brooks whose shot went in off the post after good work by Bell-Toxtle with 85 minutes on the clock. It capped a memorable performance that the large Hitchin contingent really appreciated. Six goals, another clean sheet and a nineteenth game without defeat—it cannot get much better. But Michael Jones will ensure no complacency will be shown and the team will be expected to maintain the high standards being shown as there are still 18 games to be played
