Hundreds of runners took to the streets of Hitchin on Sunday (September 27) as the popular Hitchin Town Centre 5km celebrated its landmark 10th edition.

The annual event attracted more than 400 sign-ups, with familiar faces and newcomers tackling the two-lap course through the heart of the town.

Participants enjoyed mild conditions, with the sun breaking through the clouds in time for the 9am start.

Runners were cheered on by crowds of family, friends and local supporters lining the route, while volunteers and marshals helped ensure the event ran smoothly.

The race attracted entrants from across the country, with the furthest travelling from near Inverness in Scotland while visiting family in the area.

Casey Stevenson took first place overall, completing the course in an impressive 15 minutes and 50 seconds.

Haysan So was the first female finisher, crossing the line in 19 minutes and 46 seconds.

Race Director Jake Amos hailed another successful event and thanked everyone who helped make the anniversary edition possible.

He said: "This is the tenth time that we have hosted this event, and it just gets better every year!

"The most rewarding part is seeing so many faces come out to enjoy the beautiful area of Hitchin, and what better way to do so than have a run around it!

"We want to say first and foremost a massive thank you as always to everyone who volunteered their time to come out and help put this event on, and to all those that entered, whether it be their first time or coming back again, we say thank you!"

Following the race, Hitchin Market Square was bustling with participants enjoying the Sunday morning sunshine and visiting the town's businesses.

Jake added: "After the event, the market square was full of those participants, enjoying what Hitchin has to offer, enjoying the nice Sunday morning weather."

With the Town Centre 5km now complete, organisers are looking ahead to their final event of 2026.

The Kings Winter Relay will take place on Sunday, December 6, in King's Walden, just outside Hitchin.
