Back in March 2024 Humberside Police announced that a funeral director was being investigated "following a report received of concern for care of the deceased".

Subsequently 35 bodies and suspected human ashes were recovered from a funeral parlour leading many bereaved families questioning whether the remains they had received were actually those of their loved ones.

Following this scandal across the UK Councils Environmental Health Service teams were required to inspect every funeral director service in their district.

The good news for residents of Hitchin and North Hertfordshire is that in an update shared with Councillors last week "as a result of this additional sensitive work, it was reassuring to find that every North Herts funeral director was fully compliant".
