Partygate: Calls intensify for Boris Johnson to resign after PMQs - but still no word from Hitchin MP Bim Afolami

With polls suggesting the faith voters have in politicians is at an all time low - not least thanks to a Prime Minister now under police investigation - why won't Hitchin MP Bim Afolami comment on Partygate?
With the scandal rolling on for many weeks, Mr Afolami's office has continually ignored requests from Nub News for comment on the situation.
Mr Afolami is an energetic constituency MP concerned with a large list of local issues as you can read in his regular Nub News columns - but with the PM investigated for breaking rules - and the Westminster bubble gripped by Partygate, a debilitating stasis has emerged, with real issues such as dealing with the cost of living crisis sidelined, while the saga continues.
Voters have a right to understand where Mr Afolami stands on this matter, but he has so far declined to share his thoughts with the Hitchin electorate - with his last comment on the matter on January 18 as we reported here.
So serious are the allegations that the police are now investigating a number of events in Downing Street relating to possible breaches of Covid rules, as Metropolitan Police Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick has confirmed.
The announcement comes after No10 admitted there had been a birthday celebration for Boris Johnson inside Downing Street during Covid restrictions.
Senior civil servant, Sue Gray is already investigating a series of parties and gatherings in Downing Street during the pandemic - but despite a number of requests to Mr Afolami's team from Nub News, no comment has been forthcoming on the situation.
Faith in politicians now at an all time low
Ipsos Mori has published polling suggesting the proportion of people saying lack of faith in politicians is a big issue for this country, at 25 per cent, is at its highest level since the pollster started records.
And with the latest Prime Minister Questions in the House on Wednesday lunchtime once again seeing shadow Labour leader Keir Starmer calling for the PMs resignation, the silence is deafening from our town's Parliamentarian.
And as the cabinet refuse to speak out - and many MPs everywhere, including our own - they become more complicit in sucking attention from the real issues facing voters.
Starmer says Johnson has confirmed he must resign he if misled parliament.
However, Johnson says he told MPs last year that the guidance was followed completely, and there was no party.
Yet, with Parliament - and voters in our constituency - still waiting for the outcome of Sue Gray's report, unfortunately our MP is still silent on an issue that refuses to go away.
Over to you Mr Afolami...
