North Herts Council has taken another step toward improving public transport and active travel options in Hitchin, with plans progressing to enhance bus waiting facilities and walking and cycling connections across the town.
The proposed improvements aim to make it easier and more pleasant for people to choose sustainable ways of getting around — reducing car use and helping the council meet the sustainability goals outlined in its Council Plan.
As part of the project, small sections of existing footpath currently owned by North Herts Council but not designated as public highway will be formally dedicated as such. This will allow works to go ahead smoothly and ensure full public access once the improvements are complete.
The initiative is designed to make bus travel more accessible and comfortable, encouraging residents to use public transport and active travel options such as walking and cycling for everyday journeys around Hitchin and beyond.
A council statement said the improvements form part of a wider commitment to supporting sustainable transport choices across North Hertfordshire.
