A much-loved festive classic is coming to Hitchin this winter, as OVO brings its acclaimed promenade production of A Christmas Carol to the historic British Schools Museum.

Running from 28 November to 30 December 2025, the production promises a magical, heartwarming experience for all the family — transforming the Grade II listed museum into a living, breathing Victorian Christmas scene.

Audiences will follow the cast through the museum's atmospheric spaces, beginning in the open-air playground before moving indoors through the Victorian schoolrooms. Expect ghosts and goodwill, music and magic, as Charles Dickens' timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge unfolds.

Adapted and directed by Royal Television Society winner Mark O'Sullivan (Lee and Dean, Channel 4; Tell Me Everything, ITV; The Great Gatsby, OVO), this immersive 60-minute performance will delight, amuse and move both children and adults alike.

Emma Calver, Museum Manager at the British Schools Museum, said: "We are thrilled that OVO will be performing A Christmas Carol at the museum this winter. Our unique, Grade II listed space adds a powerful sense of history to the production, which begins in the museum's open-air playground and then moves indoors into the schoolrooms themselves."

Adam Nichols, OVO's Artistic Director and Founder, added: "We are delighted to bring A Christmas Carol to two new venues this year — Vintry Garden in St Albans and the British Schools Museum here in Hitchin, home to the world's last remaining purpose-built Monitorial schoolroom. It's the perfect setting for Dickens' Victorian tale."

A sell-out success in St Albans for the past three years, this year's production marks A Christmas Carol's first-ever run in Hitchin. Visitors can enjoy mulled wine, hot chocolate and seasonal snacks as part of the experience, making it one of the highlights of the town's festive calendar.

Performances run daily from 3pm to 7.30pm, and tickets are available now at www.ovo.org.uk

, priced from £25.50 for adults and £15 for under-18s, with a 10% family discount available.
