A multi-agency operation took place in Lilley late last month aimed at tackling criminals on the road network via vehicle stop checks.

Police, Trading Standards and North Herts Council came together as 42 vehicle stop checks were conducted on those travelling between Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire using West Street in Lilley.

Uniformed officers directed drivers to a car park for routine administrative checks, while vehicles were examined for mechanical defects and traders had credentials checked by Trading Standards.

North Herts Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant Lisa Parks said: "We spoke to more than 40 drivers and tradespeople as part of the operation.

"A vehicle with no tax/MOT and one with no insurance was identified, while several drivers were also spoken to in regards to faulty break lights, unsafe tyres and wearing seatbelts.

"I hope the public are pleased to know that we carry out proactive initiatives such as this which have a variety of purposes from spotting potential rogue traders, checking drivers' tax and insurance details and examining vehicles to ensure they are safe to be on the road."
