Residents Enjoy Peaceful Canal Boat Adventure on a Sunny Spring Outing
By Eliana Ferraris 9th Apr 2026
Residents from Milford Lodge care home enjoyed a memorable day out as they boarded a traditional narrowboat for a leisurely cruise along the canal, turning an ordinary Tuesday into something truly special.
The group set off late morning, greeted by calm waters, bright spring sunshine, and a friendly crew who were eager to share stories about the canal's history. For many residents, the gentle pace of the boat and the chance to watch wildlife up close made the trip particularly meaningful.
"It was wonderful to feel the fresh air and see the ducks and swans gliding alongside us," one resident said afterward. "I haven't been on a canal boat in years, and it brought back so many happy memories."
Engagement Lead Eliana Ferraris & Team Leader Amanda Spooner joined the outing to offer support and companionship, but they were quick to say that the residents were the real stars of the day. Laughter, conversation, and the occasional burst of singing filled the boat as everyone relaxed into the slow rhythm of the water.
A fish & chip lunch was served on board, complete with plenty of tea. The boat moored briefly at a scenic spot so residents could stretch their legs and enjoy the view before the return.
Engagement Lead Eliana said the trip was part of the home's ongoing commitment to providing enriching experiences beyond the walls of the building. "Days like this are so important," she explained. "Being outdoors, trying something different, and sharing moments together really lifts everyone's spirits."
The outing was such a success that plans are already underway for another canal adventure later in the year, with hopes of inviting even more residents to join.
