A Hertfordshire police officer has been banned from the profession after pleading guilty to the coercive controlling behaviour of his ex-partner.

PC Jamie Negrello is awaiting sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of coercive controlling behaviour last year and has now lost his job as a result.

The officer resigned ahead of a public misconduct hearing held last week, where the force's chief constable confirmed he would have been dismissed without notice, and placed on the barred list indefinitely.

Allegations against Mr Negrello were made by an ex-partner in October 2020, before the officer was arrested and the Crown Prosecution Service brought forward the charge.

Mr Negrello attended Huntingdon Magistrates' Court on September 28 2021, where he pleaded guilty to the charge and was released on unconditional bail ahead of sentencing.

Sentencing was set to take place on October 19, before the magistrates determined they did not have sufficient sentencing powers to deal with the case and committed the hearing to the crown court.

A date for the sentencing is now still pending, but Hertfordshire Constabulary have now dismissed the officer ahead of the hearing.

A misconduct hearing held in the officer's absence last week determined whether the officer had breached the standard of professional behaviour in regards to discreditable conduct.

A notice on Hertfordshire Constabulary's website does not outline any more details of the case, but confirmed the officer resigned ahead of a misconduct hearing into his behaviour.

A decision reads: "The nature of the hearing was public. PC Negrello, who resigned with his last working day on 17 March 2022, was found to have breached the above standard.

"Chief Constable Charlie Hall found Jamie Negrello for Gross Misconduct, and the sanction given was dismissal without notice (in his absence) and to be placed on the barred list indefinitely."
