Simmons Bakery Delights Care Home Residents with Fresh Sourdough Donation
By Eliana Ferraris 30th Apr 2026
Residents at Milford Lodge care home in Hitchin were treated to a culinary delight thanks to a generous donation from Simmons Bakery, who gifted 10 freshly baked loaves of their signature sourdough for everyone to sample.
The delivery brought a wave of excitement through the home as the warm, crusty loaves arrived straight from the bakery ovens. Chef Joe sliced and served the sourdough throughout the afternoon, giving residents the chance to enjoy the bakery's famously tangy flavour and chewy texture.
For many, the tasting session sparked fond memories of traditional baking and family kitchens filled with the smell of fresh bread. Laughter and conversation flowed as residents compared their favourite toppings, from classic butter to homemade jams.
The care home team expressed heartfelt thanks to Simmons Bakery for their thoughtful gesture, noting how small acts of kindness like this help create moments of joy and connection.
"We're incredibly grateful for Simmons' generosity," said Activity Coordinator Devina Kutowaroo. "Freshly baked bread is such a simple pleasure, but it brought so much happiness to our residents. It turned an ordinary day into something special."
Simmons Bakery, a long‑standing favourite in the community, said they were delighted to support the home and hoped the residents enjoyed every bite.
The care home plans to continue offering tasting sessions and community‑driven food experiences, celebrating the power of good food to bring people together.
