Lucky Penny Weddings is a wedding car hire company based in Hitchin, launched in 2021 by entrepreneur Kate Peto.

The business started with a vintage 1966 cream-colored VW Microbus named "Penny," which inspired the company name. The company specializes in providing classic and vintage vehicles for weddings and other special events, combining style and nostalgia.

Since its inception, Lucky Penny Weddings has expanded its fleet to include other iconic vehicles, such as a 60-year-old Jaguar MK2 and a 1976 Triumph Stag, both featuring unique histories and distinctive designs.

Kate shared with Hitchin Nub News how proud she was to introduce the Ford Cortina into their fleet.

"This car had been carefully and lovingly looked after. Sadly, the gentleman who treasured this classic vehicle was unable to give it the life on the roads it so richly deserved.

Named after the Italian ski resort Cortina d'Ampezzo, the car was originally designed as an affordable family vehicle with strong versatility. Hitchin residents may recognise it from appearances on "Carry On Cabby" and the series "Life on Mars".

Kate explained that "we pride ourselves on being able to offer a range of vehicles that reflect the personality of the couples that hire them for their special day. We love our cars and try to look for something fun, stylish, elegant and just a little bit different from other wedding hire companies".
