Two drivers were stopped in Hitchin on Tuesday (12 November) for using a mobile at the wheel, with one having their car seized for also having no insurance.

PC Josh Rutland and PC Will Cox, from the Hitchin Neighbourhood Policing Team, were on routine foot patrol when a BMW drove past while the driver was using his mobile phone.

After stopping the vehicle, it transpired the driver also held no valid insurance.

The vehicle was seized, and the driver reported for both offences. He can expect 12 points and a subsequent disqualification, alongside £500 in fines.

While completing the paperwork for the first driver, a second vehicle drove past, again with the driver using his mobile phone. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver reported. He can expect six points and a £200 fine.

PC Rutland said: "Traffic offences are routinely identified as a key concern for residents in Hitchin, and as such the Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to take a robust approach."
