Families in Hitchin looking for free activities over the summer holidays can head to neighbouring Letchworth, where the popular Play! Discover! Share! programme is returning with a host of creative workshops, storytelling sessions and outdoor adventures.

Now in its third year, Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation's Play! Discover! Share! initiative has become a flagship family programme, offering free and inclusive activities for children and young people aged up to 15.

New for 2026 is Play! Discover! Share! Goes Wild, which will take creativity outdoors with a programme of nature-inspired activities at Spring Road Spinney.

This year's theme, Story Makers, encourages children and young people to explore their imaginations through storytelling, performance, arts and crafts, and creative play.

Throughout August, Broadway Gallery will host a range of artist-led workshops, creative sessions and free drop-in activities, while the new outdoor programme will feature storytelling, nature-inspired crafts, performances and exploration.

Organisers say the activities have been shaped by feedback from local children, young people and families to ensure they are relevant, inclusive and accessible.

The Goes Wild programme will also include dedicated SEND-focused sessions, helping more families enjoy creative experiences in a natural setting.

Sarah Golding, Head of Arts, Culture and Heritage at Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, said: "We're delighted to be presenting Play! Discover! Share! at the Broadway Gallery again for 2026 and to introduce Play! Discover! Share! Goes Wild as a major new addition to the programme.

The initiative forms part of the Heritage Foundation's wider work to support children, young people and families through cultural, creative and wellbeing projects across Letchworth.
