By Eliana Ferraris 18th Sep 2026
Milford Lodge Care Home in Hitchin has been glowing with laughter, colour, and just the right amount of spooky fun as residents came together to celebrate Summerween — a joyful twist on Halloween that blends sunshine with seasonal imagination.
🌞🎃 A Sunshine‑Season Celebration with a Spooky Twist
Summerween brought the best of both worlds to Milford Lodge: bright decorations and playful Halloween‑themed activities that residents enjoyed . The lounge was transformed with cheerful pumpkins, colourful bunting, and friendly ghosts that added a touch of mischief to the morning.
Residents loved the mix of summer and spooky — a celebration that encouraged creativity, conversation, and shared enjoyment.
👻 Costumes, Characters & Staff Bringing the Fun
The Engagement Team once again went all‑in, dressing up in light‑hearted Halloween costumes that sparked giggles and plenty of photo moments. From witches and pumpkins to classic friendly monsters, staff brought a theatrical energy that made the day feel magical.
Residents joined in with themed accessories.
🍰 Treats, Games & Seasonal Goodies
The afternoon featured a spread of sweet treats and refreshments by Activity Coordinator Devina Kutowaroo including:
• Summerween‑themed crème egg spooky biscuits & Terrys chocolate orange spooky cupcakes with dancing skeleton cupcake toppers.
Games such as themed quizzes, wordsearches
and a word scramble kept everyone entertained, with plenty of friendly competition. Followed by Haunted stories of Hertfordshire.
🧡 A Celebration of Community & Wellbeing
Summerween wasn't just about fun — it was another opportunity for residents to enjoy meaningful engagement, creativity, and connection. Events like this support wellbeing by encouraging:
• Social interaction
• Memory stimulation
• Confidence through participation
• A sense of belonging and joy
The day ended with residents sharing stories, laughing together, and already asking what theme the Engagement Team will dream up next.
